“Dylan Thomas Works with Song” with Huw Morgan & Jonathan Delbridge

“Dylan Thomas Works with Song” is a Life Story of the Swansea born poet.

Thomas’ life is illustrated with anecdotes and includes extracts from ’Under Milk Wood’, his radio broadcasts and letters, not forgetting readings of a number of his poems.

Besides providing useful musical interludes in the narrative, the songs are used to underline important events in Thomas’ life, or are paired with poems, emphasising their mood and reflecting their themes, thereby complementing the intrinsic musicality of Thomas’ poetry. The Welsh songs in particular are a reminder that the world of Welsh-language literature was ever a closed door to Dylan Thomas.

A setting of Dylan Thomas’ well known poem, ‘And Death shall have no Dominion’, composed by the great Welsh composer Meirion Williams, will be premiered during this performance.

Arwel Huw Morgan, who spent 10 years with the Welsh National Opera, and another 10 with English National Opera, is the narrator/singer, and Jonathan Delbridge the pianist.

A short Ceremony for the Closing of the 2017 Ilminster Literary Festival will follow at the end of the evening.
